The sad, ugly green beads went into the oven later... I figured there couldn't be any harm in baking them. All week I kept thinking about them and wondering if I could actually revive them. Wednesday evening I decided to add a little paint... maybe that would help. I brushed on layer upon layer. Yellow, orange, green, blue, copper... They actually started to look better! Then I decided to paint little dots. Not sure where that idea came from! I'm not a polka-dot loving girl at all!! But it seemed to fit.
I finished them off with two-tone czech crystals and some brass and glass beads. And to make them a little fancier, I sprinkled in some toho beads with the wire wrapping at the top. I think they're my favorite pair so far!
And so I decided to call them Happy Returns... an ugly idea revisited turned into a happy pair of earrings!
The fabric in the photo is my new top... somehow I got the colors to match perfectly!!
Check out the Flickr pool here to see what everyone else mixed up for week seven.
See you next week with another pair!
I adore these! Funny how things that we sometimes give up on turn out pretty awesome when given a second ( or tenth) glance! :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you like them! I am just thrilled at how well they turned out... sometimes that extra time to think when the pressure's off really can make all the difference! Thanks for stopping by! :-)
DeleteThese are awesome! They are certainly happy returns!
ReplyDeleteThey are really lovely! I especially like the wire/seed bead wrapping at the top - they give them something just a little bit different!
ReplyDeleteI love these!! I would never have guessed how much they've been through :) Love the dots and the wire thing you did at the top, very cool. Wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteThey are wonderful. Loved hearing about the story behind them.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on being featured on Polymer Clay Daily today! Wonderful story and a beautiful set of earrings as a result! -Marlene Brady
ReplyDeleteI love the wire wrapping with the japanese seed beads at the top - that combined with the shape of the polymer beads really makes it work. I particularly like the wire wrapping because it looks so effortless. My wire wrap attempts look like a barbed wire fence that's been stuck in a hurricane for a decade - even after all these years of practise!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sera! I really get you on the barbed wire stuck in a hurricane look... I do get that "lovely" effect every so often, but these came together surprisingly well and without any redos. I love wire working and some days I'd be perfectly happy to do it all day long! :-) Thanks for stopping by!
